After our colleagues at Jezebel called attention last week to the overwhelming problem of graphic porn and gore GIFs and images in the comments, we're (re) introducing pending replies. You can read about them here.

This will do a lot to help with the trolls and spam that make up the worst garbage in our comments section. But my sense is that you guys have a lot more questions (and many misconceptions!) about how comments work at Gawker, both on a technical level and on a general philosophical level. I'm going to try to hang out in this post for a little bit and answer as many questions as I can. Let's rap.
