Further raising tensions in Paris amid a manhunt for two suspected shooters in yesterday's Charlie Hebdo office massacre, a police officer was killed and another person injured after an unidentified assailant opened fire early Thursday. French police do not believe there to be connection between this morning's shooting and yesterday's killings.

The police officer was reportedly responding to the scene of a traffic accident on the southern edge of Paris when a man opened fire, killing her. A street sweeper was also injured in the attack. The suspect remains at large.

"There was an officer in front of a white car and a man running away who shot," Ahmed Sassi, who witnessed the shooting from his home, told the Associated Press. "It didn't look like a big gun because he held it with one hand."

Paris police are also investigating, Agence France-Presse reports, an explosion near a kebab shop in Villefranche-sur-Saône not far from a mosque. No one was injured in the blast, which police also do not believe to be connected to the Charlie Hebdo shootings.
