Residents "Piling Up Corpses" After Boko Haram Attack on Nigerian Town
Boko Haram militants attacked Damboa, Nigeria last night, leaving many dead and half the town burned to the ground, according to witnesses.
Residents told the Associated Press they were "piling up corpses" after the attack.
The northeastern Nigerian town suffered a similar attack two weeks ago, and is now apparently deserted after the population fled, according to the BBC. The Nigerian military claimed it killed 50 militants during that siege, but locals say soldiers were driven from Damboa's military base.
Recently, Boko Haram killed 56 people in a car bomb attack in Maiduguri, Nigeria, and dozens more at a mall in Abuja. According to a Human Rights Watch report, Boko Haram has killed 2,053 Nigerian civilians in about 95 attacks so far this year.
