Because of the sheer numbers and seemingly random pedigree of the objects of his scumbaggery (HARASSING GREAT GRANDMOTHERS is meta-terrorism for every pleasant Sunday afternoon, apple pie related memory he's corrupted!!), I'm now catching up to the reality - a reality which has been nakedly obvious to the less forgiving - that this guy is entirely pathological.
Which is to say, no amount of rehab or Oprah apologies could ever, in a billion years, fix this guy. I'm as bleeding heart as anyone and always believe in second, third, and - if the economy's going doing well - forth chances, but the foundation of this sentiment is a corollary appreciation that some people just have fucked up wiring and in the interest of everyone (namely the female population of San Diego; ages 12 - 99) you sometimes got to give people the boot.
If we're going to play the pretend game that politicians are supposed to represent us, then, yeah, they need to treat 50% of the population and workforce with fucking equality. It isn't asking much, just don't expect and insinuate sex from co-workers. Not that hard, really. Just don't do it.
Evidently it IS hard or else asshole guys wouldn't keep doing it. We shouldn't allow it and it ought to be dealt with swiftly and with consequence but evidently there's a filtering process in how people rise in politics that trends towards sexual pathologies. You, know "definition of insanity" and so forth. I would suggest a more robust whistleblower system where those who come forward are granted special rights and protections (and frankly, money), instead of seen as piranhas who can never work in politics again. This, for me, would seem like a more efficient means of solving the problem than insisting those who fill positions of power - positions that are, by definition, occupied by a group of men who trend pathological - just randomly change their ways.
I'm just getting caught up on this. Can someone explain to me why he can't be summarily removed from office? Does it require a popular vote or something?
It varies depending on the state and locality. In San Diego, only fiscal malfeasance can trigger a removal. Anything else requires a recall election.
It is a weird loophole where the town council is having difficulty providing clear and convincing proof that it is not 1957.
He's our elected mayor, so there's a process & whatnot.
Because forcibly removing someone from elected office should be neither fast nor easy.
