In a message addressed to the UC-Berkeley campus community, Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and Provost Claude Steele announced that Professor of Astronomy Geoff Marcy resigned from the UC Berkeley faculty on Wednesday morning: “Professor Marcy’s conduct, as determined by the investigation, was contemptible and inexcusable.”

A majority of UC-Berkeley’s astronomy faculty have signed a letter calling for the dismissal of Geoffrey Marcy, an astronomer at the university since 1999, who was found to have sexually harassed his students.

UC Berkeley is claiming to be the first university to provide full-length lectures on the popular video-sharing site YouTube. The university is positioning the move as "a public window into university life, academics, events and athletics, which will build on our rich tradition of open educational content for the larger community."
