Jordan Sargent · 04/05/16 02:40PM

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel has a long list of enemies. Near the top is the Chicago Teachers Union, with which he’s feuded for his entire tenure as mayor. This past Friday, the union staged a one-day strike, closing schools across the city in order to draw attention to their latest round of negotiations with the city, which wants the teachers to accept cuts to pay, staffing, and budgets.

Churlish Theatergoer Tries to Plug iPhone Into Broadway Set

Jay Hathaway · 07/06/15 02:45PM

Most people attend a Broadway show with the understanding that cellphones aren’t allowed, you should turn them off, and you won’t need them for the next couple of hours. Most, but not all. Not the guy who tried to plug his iPhone into the set (which is located on the actual stage, to which the entire audience is directing its attention) just before a recent performance of Hand to God.

Rich Juzwiak · 05/09/14 04:26PM

If you like 2Pac, you'll love 2Pac with jazz hands: Behind-the-scenes footage of the upcoming Broadway musical that sources the (possibly) dead rapper's catalog, Holler If Ya Hear Me, has been released. It's not exactly hip-hop, but it is very hip-hop rappin'.

Gabrielle Bluestone · 02/20/14 08:36PM

Critic Jordan Hoffman says he once worked for the Wolf of Broadway telemarketing theater tickets: "Listen," I'd say, "an all-deaf cast doing a musical version of Huck Finn may sound a little nuts, but what's the point of getting up in the morning if you don't try something different, right? You want Sunday matinees?"

'Autism-Friendly' Performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark Planned

Robert Kessler · 02/06/13 04:17PM

This coming April, Broadway's biggest tourist trap will be going dark. Of course Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark isn't closing, it makes like a billion dollars a day. But it will be turning on the dark for one special performance geared specifically toward children on the autism spectrum.

Paul Rudd Lists the Top 10 Thoughts that Went Through His Mind When an Audience Member Vomited at His Broadway Show

Neetzan Zimmerman · 11/20/12 11:55AM

The jury is still out on whether the theatergoer who vomited from the balcony during a November 14th performance of the Broadway play Grace was drunk or just old, but that hasn't stopped the show's star Paul Rudd from jotting down a few of the things that were going through his head as audience members in the orchestra section suddenly found themselves in the theater's splash zone.
