NYPD officers were hard at work last night searching for Rhamar Perkins, a 16-year-old who bolted from a police stationhouse after being caught allegedly jumping a subway turnstile in Brownsville. Perkins turned himself in about four and a half hours later, the New York Daily News reports.

On Wednesday, the New York Times reports, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said that prosecutors would dismiss first-degree rape charges against the five teenagers who were accused of attacking an 18-year-old woman in Brooklyn early this year.

“Although the events that unfolded at the Osborn Playground on Jan. 7 are still unclear, what seems obvious, as it did in the case of Akai Gurley, mistakenly shot to death in a dark stairway in the Louis Pink Houses...is the inconsistency with which ‘broken windows’ policing is practiced.”

The Brooklyn district attorney alerted the court Thursday that he would not make the initial deadline to obtain indictments against four of the five teenagers arrested on suspicion of raping an 18-year-old woman at a Brownsville playground earlier this month. As such, those suspects are to be released without bail.

At a hearing in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, the New York Times reports, one of the five teenagers accused in the gang-rape of an 18-year-old woman introduced a smartphone video that its owner and defense lawyers said showed a brief exchange with the victim before the suspected attack.

Today, New York police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old suspect in the alleged gang rape of an 18-year-old woman at a playground in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, though the case only appears to be getting murkier as more details emerge.

Last month, an 82-year-old woman died in her kitchen in Brooklyn. Her death certificate said she died of natural causes. Now, the New York Times reports, the officers who found her body may be disciplined after a funeral director noticed a stab wound on her neck they had missed.
