Bumrushed by a thief on the street, an innocent female shrieked: Her cellphone had been stolen! Just then, a Vespa scooted onto the scene. Chromed wheels shining like justice, its passengers chased down the bandit and retrieved the maiden's phone.
I was wandering the streets of Carroll Gardens (Brooklyn Heights' free-spirited sister) during a Bastille Day celebration last month, and there were people, tons of people!, wearing straw hats and frothy summer dresses and being languid and too cool for anything other than drinking in the summertime. And there I was, hungover as hell, tromping over from my-fine, I'll admit it-South Slope apartment, looking like a hobo wearing a pickle barrel. The gentrification of Carroll Gardens, the land of pregnancy, is hitting a sticky patch. A bunch of Brooklyn parents are upset at the behavior of some of the teenagers in Carroll Park, at Smith and Carroll Streets.
