A recent online petition to allow open carry of firearms at the Republican National Convention in July, which had acquired 51,376 signatures as of Tuesday evening, was apparently authored by a man who is not actually a Second Amendment activist, but a Hillary Clinton supporter.

In July, GOP presidential candidates, influential party members, ordinary Republicans, protesters, and lots and lots of cops will convene in Cleveland for three days for the Republican National Convention. Things might get ugly.

Less than a day after the city of Cleveland filed a $500 claim against Tamir Rice’s family for the ambulance sent in an attempt to save the 12-year-old, Mayor Frank Jackson said the whole thing was a miscommunication between the city and Rice’s family.

The City of Cleveland has devastated the family of Tamir Rice several times over, and seems to have no intention of stopping. This afternoon in probate court, Cleveland Scene reports, the city filed a creditor’s claim for $500, saying that Rice’s family still owes them for the ambulance and paramedics that tended to the 12-year-old’s body after he was shot by a police officer in November 2014.

In a decision that was grimly inevitable, a grand jury has declined to indict the Cleveland police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice at a park in November of last year, and his partner, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty announced in a press conference this afternoon.

In a statement to investigators, Officer Timothy Loehmann claims that he and his partner shouted, “Show me your hands” at least three times at Tamir Rice before fatally shooting him, the Associated Press reports. “I knew it was a gun and I knew it was coming out,” Loehmann said.

Yesterday on Cleveland’s East Side, a six-month-old girl riding in a car with her mother was killed after being shot in the chest during an apparent drive-by shooting. Following a failed SWAT raid on a nearby building, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams broke down in tears while speaking to reporters about the girl’s death.

A Cleveland judge said on Thursday that there’s probable cause to charge the police officer who last year fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice with murder, manslaughter, and reckless homicide.

In court documents filed Friday, the City of Cleveland formally denied responsibility for the police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, arguing his death was "directly and proximately caused" by his own actions.

On Wednesday, police in Cleveland began wearing some of the 1,500 body cameras the city bought for officers last month, the Associated Press reports. Cleveland Police plan to outfit every officer in the department with the devices by June.
