Poor Caroline Giuliani. Arrested for stealing makeup from Sephora on the Upper East Side on Wednesday, she was obviously the victim of inept police work because she was handcuffed. Handcuffed! The daughter of "America's Mayor" deserves better than that.

The Swiss government said this morning it will not extradite cinematic auteur and skeezy rapist Roman Polanski to the US to face charges of raping an underage girl in 1977. Said the Swiss justice minister: "He's a free man." [NYT]

After nearly a week the nationwide manhunt for killer Raoul Moat in Britain ended today. Police cornered Moat, shot him with a taser, and he then shot and killed himself. Moat had shot his ex-girlfriend and two others. [Independent; Getty]

Apparently upset about the price of a pair of shades in a Chelsea boutique, a man yesterday brandished a knife and stabbed the store manager. He stabbed more people outside before being subdued by a Salsa DJ and his crew.

The infamous Southern California booby trapping drug dealer, Nicholas John Smit, has been arrested and will face charges in court today for allegedly setting deadly traps to kill police officers after he was arrested for growing weed.

Cornelius Abson, convicted of robbing five people between the ages of 67 and 85, was sentenced to 17 years in prison yesterday. Abson was caught on a security camera choking an 85-year-old woman, then stealing $900 and her cane. [NYDN]

Shocker: An Australian Catholic priest today was sentenced to 20 years in jail for molesting 25 children between 1968 and 1986. In court he called himself a "mere scumbag paedophile." The same could be said for much of the Vatican.

Paul Baldwin is a 49-year-old man from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. As of June, Baldwin has been arrested 154 times for arson, trespassing, receiving stolen property and theft, among others offenses. His most recent arrest was for stealing 48 beers.

50-year-old Michoel Streicher, a singer who calls himself "The Michael Jackson of Jewish music" was sentenced yesterday to a year in jail for swindling a woman out of $36,000 he said he would use to buy a torah.
