Brian Moylan · 05/03/11 12:07PM

Last night, Anna Wintour's charity boondoggle, the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, brought out the brightest in the fashion world and tons of celebrities wearing their couture finest. But it wasn't easy walking that red carpet.

Brian Moylan · 06/08/10 11:51AM

We were far too busy watching the season finale of Nurse Jackie to attend the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards last night at Lincoln Center. But fictional freelancer Betsey Morgenstern was there taking plenty of notes!

The Costume Institute Gala Benefit: A Virtual Party Report

Brian Moylan · 05/04/10 03:50PM

We were so busy gawking at Real Housewife Danielle Staub eating dinner with skater Johnny Weir in Chelsea last night that we missed the Costume Institute Gala Benefit. Luckily fictional freelancer Betsey Morgenstern was there in our stead.

Letterman Gets the Boot; Paris Goes to War

cityfile · 11/16/09 07:38AM

• Did David Letterman's wife boot him out of the house because he "balked at telling her the complete truth about the female staffers he bedded"? That's what the National Enquirer has been claiming, although his spokesman says it isn't true. So maybe he's just still sleeping on the couch. [NYDN]
• Amy Winehouse is back in the hospital for the 143rd time. It was due to an "adverse reaction" she had to cold medicine. Naturally. [Mirror]
• A brawl at a club in Queens over the weekend led cops to shoot a man who once worked as a bodyguard for Jay-Z, Mariah Carey and Diddy. [NYP]
• Paris Hilton is "declaring war" on the Kardashian sisters because they're more famous than she is these days and they're earning more money, too. Paris has "hatched a plan" to return to her former perch as tabloid queen, however. It entails launching a new hair and beauty line and playing up her "more stable relationship with Doug Reinhardt." DVF Getting the Hang of This Twitter Thing

cityfile · 11/03/09 11:19AM

Last week, designer Diane von Furstenberg took to Twitter to announce she'd been robbed in Madrid. It turns out she wasn't robbed exactly. "I got pickpocketed. No one attacked me," she clarified to a reporter at the ACE Awards last night. And don't be surprised if she soon abandons Twitter. "I don't want to give a bad rap to Madrid, but it was annoying, and I had the stupid idea of tweeting it, and then the whole world knew about it." [NYM, previously]

Things You Never Thought You'd See, Vol. 28

cityfile · 10/23/09 10:24AM

This has been an absolutely awful year for the fashion industry thanks to the economic downturn. But you needn't be concerned that the financial crisis has forced Diane von Furstenberg to pick up a part-time job as a cab driver. She only slipped behind the wheel of a cab yesterday to film "a project" for her new line of eyewear. So let's all exhale now, shall we? [DVF]

Fashionistas Are All Foodies at Heart

cityfile · 10/21/09 02:00PM

Why did the Council of Fashion Designers of America just publish a cookbook? Because "food and fashion both start with an 'f,'" explains Diane von Furstenberg, adding that "all designers love to cook," which may very well be true but fails to explain why these designers haven't been sharing their creations with the stick-thin models that appear in their fashion shows up until now.
