Hulu Is Up for Sale

Ryan Tate · 06/22/11 05:58PM

Hulu has put itself up for sale, moving to end the grand alliance between the broadcasters who own the TV website and provide it with shows. This is really going to suck.

Finally, the Real Muppets Movie Trailer

Seth Abramovitch · 06/19/11 10:01PM

After three teaser fakes, the real, full-length trailer for the upcoming The Muppets has finally come out. Does it put to ease my growing concerns over what Jason Segel and company would do with Kermie and the gang? For the most part, yes, though I still have some reservations. But there's fart shoes, a new Muppet who looks a lot like Gene Simmons, Miss Piggy in a Chanel suit, and a Starship sing-along. How bad could it be? (And is that a "K & P" I spy on the wrought iron gate?) The movie opens November 23rd. [Muppets Studio]

Helpful Family Values Group Warns Disney Goers of Gay Presence

Lauri Apple · 06/05/11 08:20PM

This weekend the Florida Family Association hired a plane to pull banners warning Disney World-goers about "Gay Days," part of which were celebrated inside the beloved theme park. They didn't want families to be exposed to "the reality of witnessing over 15,000 Gay Pride Day revelers."

Disney Trademarks 'SEAL Team 6'

John Cook · 05/13/11 05:05PM

No sooner does a team of anonymous American heroes risk their lives in pursuit of a solemn oath of justice than a multinational cartoon corporation seeks to profit from it with shitty tchochkes. Two days after members of the Navy's SEAL Team 6 killed Osama bin Laden, Disney trademarked the name for use in, among other things, "Christmas tree ornaments."

Fictional Made-for-TV Movie Band Tops Pop Charts

Hamilton Nolan · 04/27/11 11:19AM

I am old, crotchety, and weary of the complexities of modern life. So I am not a trustworthy judge of kids these days. But when one of the best-selling bands in America is just the imaginary band starring in a Disney made-for-TV movie...that's messed up, right?

Does the Mars Needs Moms Catastrophe Mean Anything?

Richard Lawson · 03/15/11 01:24PM

Disney's latest animated movie (well, distributed by Disney, produced by Robert Zemeckis's now-defunct ImageMovers Digital) Mars Needs Moms opened this past weekend with receipts of around $6 million. Considering the movie cost between $150 and $175 million to make and release, this is a bomb on the scale of Cutthroat Island. Which is to say, it's a big, big bomb. So is this just some random fluke, or does it say something about a bigger trend? Some folks are saying it does.

Channing Tatum Will Never Grow Up

Richard Lawson · 03/02/11 05:13PM

Not if he gets his way in his next movie he won't. Also today: pilot casting including roles for an old WB favorite and a new CW regular, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen hop aboard the lucrative theme park ride adaptation movie racket, and Christina Aguilera gets her sentence.

Disney World Is Extra Rapey Lately

Hamilton Nolan · 02/28/11 09:18AM

Are you caught up on the most recent sex crimes somehow connected to Disney World? Well, you should be. First there was Disney reservations clerk Wilbert Brookins, arrested last week for trying to rape a woman in her Disney hotel room after he'd gotten her an "employee discount" and escorted her through the park. Although she was very specific: "she said at the time she would not exchange sex for this."

Prom: The Most Important Night of Your Life Is Here

Richard Lawson · 02/09/11 03:48PM

Here' s a new trailer for Disney's Prom, a movie all about the one night of your life when you can feel special and carefree and perfect. It's all downhill after the prom, for sure. The movie seems a bit like a teen version of ensemble comedies like—shudder—Valentine's Day.

Ke$ha is Walt Disney's Newest Princess

Leah Beckmann · 01/26/11 01:15PM

Well Ke$ha has gone and done it again. This new video, brought to you by Funny or Die, is a spoof on Disney- complete with cartoon rats bathing in Jack and Evil Mirror-Queen "sluts." Watch if you dare.

This former Disney employee tells it like it is inside the most magical place on earth. His experiences behind the scenes at Hollywood Studios cut right to the heart of the human experience: free food.

The Horrible Life of a Disney Employee

Brian Moylan · 01/12/11 03:03PM

Every so often there are those exposes about the torture of working in a Disney theme park. Here's one by YouTube's Swoozie06that's a little bit lighter and done with the help of some humorous stick figure animation.
