Dominick Dunne—chronicler of crime and society, best-selling author, Vanity Fair contributor, and cable television host—died in August after a long battle with cancer. His weekend house in Connecticut is now up for sale. The three-bedroom home in Lyme, which was once featured in Architecural Digest (above) and which, according to the broker, is "immediately recognizable from Mr. Dunne's television shows and documentaries," is listed for $2.1 million. An odd line in the Times obit of Dominick Dunne seems to suggest that the late writer's family wanted to delay the announcement of his death in order to make sure it wasn't overshadowed.

After spending 28 years in a coma, heiress Sunny von Bülow, 76, has died, according to the NYT. She was first discovered unconscious on the floor of her Newport, R.I., mansion in 1980, and her husband Claus von Bulow was convicted, but later acquitted, of attempting to murder her with an insulin injection. With characters like "Prince Alexander von Auersperg" (Sunny's son who pushed for Claus' prosecution) and "Maria Schrallhammer" (Sunny's maid), the Dynasty-like tale generated a media frenzy and served as the basis for the Jeremy Irons-Glenn Close film Reversal of Fortune.

Fantastic news, America-our constitutional right to repeatedly call a man a murderer has been upheld! Former congressmen Gary Condit, who allegedly caused 9/11 (j/k Gary!) sued Vanity Fair scribe Dominick Dunne for defamation, because Dunne kept claiming he knew that Condit knew stuff he wasn't telling about the murder of former Condit intern/paramour Chandra Levy (which Condit is totally responsible for, allegedly). Dunne went on the tee-vee and said "I think he knows more about what did happen than he has ever said," so the judge dismissed the suit becuz "I think" means it was a constitutionally protected statement of opinion, not assertion of fact. Or, as the judge put it, "Dunne does not suggest that his opinion statements are based on any additional facts not known to the public." This is terrible news for everyone, as now we all actually do have to be careful to use those stupid weasel words. Like "allegedly"!

Investigative reporter and gadfly Dominick Dunne was a columnist at Graydon Carter' Vanity Fair and the host of CourtTV's Power, Privilege and Justice. He was also an author (People Like Us, The Two Mrs. Grenvilles), erstwhile movie producer (1970's The Boys in the Band), and former addict. His son is actor/director Griffin Dunne. Dunne died on August 26, 2009.

There's been a rumor floating around medialand this afternoon that VF scribe Dominick Dunne — celebrity, friend to celebrities, chronicler of celebrity trials — had a heart attack last night. The version we heard even ended with an ominous "and he's not doing well." But we're now able to tell you that the report of Dunne's heart attack, as it turns out, was an exaggeration. Vanity Fair's spokeswoman assures us that Dunne's heart problem last night was merely a palpitation, and both he and his doctor expect he'll be just fine.
