Gawker Staff · 04/19/12 02:04PM

The New York Times' "Room For Debate" is an entrancingly dumb recurring feature in which they get a handful of vaguely qualified people to opine on various important questions such as, "Is Veganism Good For Everyone?" Please see this controversial photo of Rihanna preparing to do drugs off of a man's head at Coachella this week for reference.

Allow Us to Gently Point Out that New York Magazine's Cover Story Is Meaningless

Hamilton Nolan · 03/19/12 02:35PM

New York Magazine cover stories that purport to capture and explain some element of our current zeitgeist are not to be taken seriously. Just to be clear. Only people hermetically sealed in bubbles of Manhattan privilege would even labor under the delusion that such works of artful fiction were meant to be "believed," in a literal sense. Still—it is bothersome that they continue to be foisted upon the public. Why not just publish a collection of knock-knock jokes, instead? They'd contain more wisdom.

Apparently a third party hired the prostitute without telling her she'd be servicing Guzman, a billionaire druglord who has been on the lam since escaping prison 11 years ago. According to Mexican daily Reforma, the prostitute was blindfolded and taken to a rented home in Los Cabos without being told who her client would be.

A Nigerian woman who claimed to be pregnant was actually hiding a whole lot of heroin inside her ladyparts. Afolake Awoyemi was detained at JFK Airport after flying in from France. When asked by a Border Protection inspector, Awoyemi said she was three months pregnant — but she must not have been convincing, because Customs officers opted for a pat-down search.

Louis Peitzman · 03/04/12 02:44PM

Kids in as many as 50 families in Chatham, New Jersey were mistakenly given breast cancer medication instead of chewable fluoride tablets. While the fluoride the children were supposed to receive is used to prevent tooth decay, the pill Tamoxifen blocks the production of estrogen. CVS has alerted all the families and apologized, but no one can figure out exactly how this happened.
