Here's the First Picture of Egypt's Ousted President Since the Coup

This image was published yesterday on the website for Egypt's el-Watan newspaper, which has close ties to the military that ousted former president Mohamed Morsi. The photo is actually a still from an undated video and is believed to be the first image of Morsi since his imprisonment began. His trial began today but was quickly postponed until January.

Egypt Suspends Bassem Youssef's Satirical Television Show

The satirical Egyptian television show "al-Bernameg " hosted by Bassem Youssef (dubbed Egypt's Jon Stewart) was suspended from the air last night, only minutes before airing. Last week, Youssef had turned his attention to making fun of Egypt's military rulers, sparking even more controversy and resulting in new, stricter editorial conditions from the show's network. Apparently, Youssef's writing staff failed to meet the new conditions.

Egypt Bans Muslim Brotherhood

On Monday, an Egyptian court issued a ruling that banned the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The Cairo Court for Urgent Matters applied the ruling to the Islamist group's non-governmental group, its recently formed political party, and any groups affiliated with or receiving financial support from the organization.

Security Forces Storm Mosque in Egypt After Tense Standoff

Almost a thousand supporters of former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi took refuge inside a mosque overnight, after becoming surrounded by government security forces. The tense situation finally came to a head only moments ago, when security forces fired tear gas into the mosque, and began dragging people out, amid reports of gunfire. The BBC is now reporting that all protesters have been cleared from the mosque, and the majority have been arrested.
