Shit! It's 8:00 and we're totally late for Democratic Primary Day! We went to bed all early last night, cozied up with our copy of the NYC Voter Assistance Commission's bible, just so we could be up and at the polls at 6 a.m. Alas, our excitement kept us from drifting asleep at a decent hour, and so we're only now awake and polishing our wingtips for today's big trip to Democracyville. But we shall not be deterred! So, like any good little citizen would, we skimmed our paper of record for some last minute information before we went to cast our vote in this important decision to determine who will be involved in November's important decision. And what did we learn?

This is the sort of news that makes us sad we skipped town early for the long weekend: Drinking Liberally's Mayoroke — in which candidates for mayor and other city offices will sing for your votes — is happening tonight.

There's a lot to love about mayoral candidate Gifford Miller's latest television commercial for his education plan: the beat-heavy soundtrack, the great graphics, the precious kids, the quick-cut photography befitting of a TRL champ.

Oh, thank you so much, little Addison Miller.

So Robert Hammond's lobbying has paid off. Hammond, an occasional dotcommer and artist, is co-founder of Friends of the High Line, a group lobbying for the elevated railway on the west side to be turned into an urban park. Friends of the High Line, which holds The Bloomberg administration this week adopted the scheme, backing the High Line's designation as a trail, which would stop its demolition. Gifford Miller, the City Council speaker, is a major supporter. Which is only fair, given the enthusiasm with which Hammond's been fundraising for the ambitious young Democrat. The objective: a New York version of the promenade plantee along the old line to Bastille in Paris. It's warms the cockles to see, applied to urban improvement, a bit of old-fashioned political arm-twisting.
