Cissy Houston: I Wouldn't Have Liked If Whitney Were Gay, 'Not At All'

Rich Juzwiak · 01/29/13 09:50AM

Last night, on the eve of the release of her Remembering Whitney book, Whitney Houston's mother Cissy sat down with and croaked at Oprah Winfrey for a very special episode of Oprah's Next Chapter. Crankily honest, Cissy discussed the longstanding rumor that Whitney was involved in a romantic relationship with her best friend and one-time executive assistant Robyn Crawford. In the book, Cissy alludes to Whitney "experiment[ing]" with this friendship. She told Oprah that she just didn't like Robyn. "She just spoke too much…disrespectful sometimes," she explained. But the real brutality came as a result of Oprah asking Cissy if it would have bothered her if Whitney were gay.

Bigot vs. Bigot: Rick Santorum to Oppose Chuck Hagel Nomination

Robert Kessler · 01/09/13 04:05PM

Non-Senator Rick Santorum has announced his intention to combat the Senate confirmation of Chuck Hagel for Defense secretary. There's a lot to that sentence, so let me re-state: Rick Santorum, who as a regular, non-elected citizen has no more power than you or me or Bobby McGee, is going to attempt to hold up Chuck Hagel's nomination as Secretary of Defense. Because Congress needs help to be inert and unproductive.

Azealia Banks Called Perez Hilton a "Faggot," But That Doesn't Make Her a Homophobe

Rich Juzwiak · 01/05/13 09:45AM

For the better part of the past 48 hours, 21-year-old New York rapper Azealia Banks (best known for her 2011 viral hit "212") has been holding the attention of her Twitter followers hostage. First it was a Twitter beef with fellow 21-year-old hip-hop up-and-comer Angel Haze, which resulted in a swapping of dis tracks. And then, last night, she really had people freaking out when, during a spat with Perez Hilton resulting from his #TeamAngelHaze status, she called him a "messy faggot":

On 'Butthurt'

Mobutu Sese Seko · 12/05/12 11:00AM

The wages of criticism on the internet is an uphill battle against endless counter-arguments made in bad faith. Bob Costas learned that on Sunday night. He responded to a gun-related murder-suicide with an appeal for gun control. Conservatives howled. You know who else liked gun control? Hitler. Gun control is bad, because anything Hitler favored is bad. Like freeways or crushing communism.

Here's Video of Mitt Romney Saying "It's Not Right" That Gay People Are Having Children

John Cook · 10/29/12 10:11AM

Last week Murray Waas reported in the Boston Globe that as governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney refused to change the state's birth certificate to acknowledge legal births to same-sex parents. Gay couples with children were to cross out "mother" or "father" on the forms and write themselves in, leaving their children's official documents permanently altered. Romney later explained the thinking behind the decision this way: "Some gays are actually having children born to them. It's not right on paper. It's not right in fact." Here's the video.

Twitter Turns #SignsYoSonIsGay Hashtag Into Warm and Fuzzy Support Group

Alyssa Bereznak · 10/20/12 12:13PM

This morning someone out there woke up, opened the window, took a breath of fresh air and said, "I'm going to start a homophobic hashtag on Twitter." At least that's how I imagine the very unfunny #SignsYoSonIsGay hashtag, not unlike the Android App called "Is My Son Gay?", was born. Soon, others demonstrated their own profoundly shallow perception of gay people (as well as their own grammatical indiscretions). For instance:
