In a bizarre twist to a macabre story, Austin Flake, a son of Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, was supposed to be watching nearly 30 dogs in a sketchy-sounding Arizona canine boarding house when the AC broke down in the shed where the dogs were held, and 20 of them died from the heat.
It hasn't been a very good week for Congressional offspring.
Arizona Senator Jeff Flake felt so bad for Caren Teves, whose son died shielding his girlfriend from bullets in the Aurora theater massacre, that he wrote her a handwritten note in response to a letter she sent him pleading for reform. "I am truly sorry for your deep loss," Flake wrote. "While we may not agree on every solution, strengthening background checks is something we agree on."
Though we take a backseat to no one when it comes to mocking various academic fields on the basis of little but our own prejudices, this is ridiculous even by our low standards: famous political theorist Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) (pictured, smugly) led a successful battle this week to get the House of Representatives to zero out funding for the National Science Foundation's most useless field.
