Whitney Cummings' new E! talk show, Love You, Mean It, debuted last night and her first guest was Mindy Kaling. They gnawed the air at each other, swapped compliments and said "like" collectively over 40 times. I strung together all of the latter instances for the reel above. Many of us are guilty of this, myself included. Every time I catch myself doing this, I grind my teeth and one day soon I won't have any teeth and pronouncing a word like "like" will approach impossibility. I'm just saying, like, let's all be more aware of it.

An Israeli couple has named their newborn daughter "Like." It's unclear if Facebook was the direct inspiration for their choice, given that the father doesn't really use Facebook. But, still, pretty cruel!

In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, Justin Bieber said the word "like" a whopping 63 times. 63 times! In an 11-minute interview. That averages to about once every 11 seconds. This is what our youth looks up to?

Each of the three acts-the first of which went up today-will only be available for free viewing for a limited time. So get thee here tonight damnit and check out Act One. I just did, and it is charming and hysterical. And, yeah, I am fanboy. Sue me.

Somewhere in midtown, the smell of chlorine hung heavy above the heads of a group of New Yorker cartoonists. They were at the bar at the Hotel QT, drinking free wine and vodka and celebrating their failures. Most of them were included in the second edition of The Rejection Collection: Cream of the Crap, a compilation of cartoons that didn't make the cut. Also there was Hendrick Hertzberg, who looks like Robert Redford and Warren Beatty and who, when Tina Brown was editor The New Yorker, was the cartoon editor. His friends call him Rick. I called him Rick. Am I his friend? Is he on Facebook? Provisional not yets on both questions. Also, if you, like me, thought the life of a New Yorker cartoonist was all doodling and fat paychecks, the gathered company was quick to disabuse us of that notion. Nikola Tamindzic was disabused too. So hard.
