Mitt Romney's Orgy of Creative Self-Destruction

Mobutu Sese Seko · 09/22/12 10:12AM

God preserve you if you have any idea what's happening inside Mitt Romney's brain. After a week that was already the worst of his campaign, it's as if the man said, "Oh, yeah? Watch this," and pulled back the hyperdumb levers of his magical farting machine, the Mittlennium Fuckup.

Mitt Romney's Family Trust Invested In Chinese Companies

Taylor Berman · 09/21/12 07:43PM

Mitt Romney's 2011 tax returns, which were finally released today, show that Romney's family trust invested in two Chinese companies, a bank and a state-owned oil company. Then, as Romney's presidential campaign gained momentum, the trust sold the shares. This might not a big deal if Romney hadn't spent much of the past two years criticizing China for using unfair trade practices, and then faulting Obama for not being tougher on China's policies. For instance, Romney has said a lot of things like this:

Mitt Romney Releases Basically Made-Up 2011 Tax Returns

John Cook · 09/21/12 03:07PM

Mitt Romney has just released his long-awaited 2011 tax returns, and guess what? He deliberately overpaid his 2011 federal tax burden so he wouldn't look like an avaricious plutocrat gaming the system. Which is just bizarre.

How Much Does a Minimum-Wage Family Need to Work to Be 'Personally Responsible'?

In Mitt Romney's almost comically offensive leaked speech, in which he says that the 47 percent of Americans who don't pay income taxes feel entitled to wild luxuries like "food" and "housing," the GOP presidential candidate also suggests that this 47 percent doesn't "take personal responsibility" for their lives. Some good things have been written about the qualitative validity of Romney's "personal responsibility" statement, but politics blog Squashed decided to look at its quantitative validity, also. Many people who don't pay income taxes have jobs, of course, but how much more would they need to work to be responsible in the eyes of Romney and his supporters? In short: A lot more.

Romney's Latest Boner: The Emperor Has No Clothes, No Plans and No Excuses

Mobutu Sese Seko · 09/19/12 03:30PM

There's an old political line about how a gaffe is merely a case of a politician inadvertently revealing an obvious truth. In that sense, Mitt Romney has been on an honesty rampage for six years. He is the Mr. Bean-like embodiment of every impulse to accidentally thoroughly disrobe before an unwilling nation.

Mitt Romney Sleeps Almost Naked and Other Uncomfortable Moments From This Morning's Live With Kelly and Michael

Kate Bennert · 09/18/12 06:29PM

This morning, the already infamous interview with the Romneys aired on ABC's Live with Kelly and Michael. Mr. and Mrs. Romney took it upon themselves to share with us the more intimate details of their everyday lives: Ann leaves the cap off the toothpaste, Mitt wears "as little as possible" to bed, Ann once walked in on George W. Bush "having a massage..." You know, they're just like us and all that.
