'Jersey Shore' Faces Rising Tide of Anger

cityfile · 12/08/09 02:30PM

MTV's latest reality series, Jersey Shore, has some people—such as really humorless Italian-Americans—pretty pissed, as you may have heard. Before the show even debuted, Unico National, the same group that repeatedly criticized HBO over The Sopranos, issued a statement to the media lambasting the program. It's since lined up support from several other Italian-American community groups and convinced at least two advertisers—Domino's and American Family Insurance—to stop advertising on the show.

These colorful characters will instantly become your new reality show best friends when the MTV show about eight guidos in a summer house starts tonight. It's going to be epic. And yes, we will be live blogging the 10pm debut.

Confessions of a Real New Jersey Guido

cityfile · 11/18/09 12:34PM

Last week, MTV announced its newest series, Jersey Shore, which it promises will feature the "hottest, tannest, craziest guidos" in the Jerz. (Think The Hills, but starring people who are tanner and have a whole lot more confidence.) What you can expect to see: all the fist pumping, pecs, and hair gel you can handle, naturally. So how close will it be to reality and how much of it will be the product of imaginative MTV producers? To separate fact from fiction, we reached out to the world's leading expert on guido-dom, Anthony Moussa, a 30-year-old Jersey native who founded the website NLSociety.com (formerly the infamous NJGuido.com), and asked him to explain to us what the lifestyle is really all about. Join us as he discusses man-jewelry, the origin of the fist pump, and how some guidos today are disgracing the culture that so many hold near and dear.

Five Minutes With Erin Lucas

Erin Lucas didn't return to The City for a second season, sadly. But just because she isn't playing Whitney Port's best bud on MTV on Tuesday nights doesn't mean she's been sitting around twiddling her thumbs. Louis Vuitton debuted its new ready-to-wear boutique and 2010 cruise collection at Saks Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, an event that turned the store's third floor into a lush indoor garden. It was amid the flora and fauna that party correspondent Douglas Marshall caught up with the TV starlet to chat about what she's up to now, what she's got coming up, and her former castmates from The City.
