Treasure Hunter Finds Recipe for Coca-Cola in Random Box of Letters
But is it the secret recipe? Cliff Kluge of Ringgold, Georgia, believes it is, and has already put it up for sale on eBay.
A self-described "treasure hunter," Kluge says he and his wife recently picked up a box of letters and papers at an estate sale, and inside was a recipe for Coca-Cola dated 1943.
"It's a letter, and a formula, and the processes to make it," he told 11Alive. "I think it's a little deeper than having fun; I think it's the recipe for Coca-Cola."
The recipe does seem to share many striking similarities with another alleged "secret recipe" posted online by This American Life two years ago.
And Coke is refusing to take a closer look at Kluge's find, releasing a vague statement saying the "real formula is safely tucked away in a vault at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta."
Coke's non-denial is enough for Kluge to try and make some bank on the possibility that he stumbled onto the Real Thing.
Interested parties with at least $5 million to spare can bid on the recipe through its auction page.
Those with $15 million can buy it right now.
