A suspected—and determined—shoplifter at a Walmart in Mobile, Ala. managed to escape store security Wednesday by climbing up into the store's ventilation system. From there, he crawled his way to the store's entrance, kicked through the ceiling, jumped down, and fled.

According to AL.com, the suspect was first apprehended by a loss prevention officer outside the store and was then taken to a security office, where he presumably climbed through the ceiling and into the store's air ducts. He traveled about 20 feet, WKRG reports, before kicking his way out.

Brannan Lynn, who was at the McDonald's inside the Walmart with his father that day, recorded the alleged bandit making his getaway. He told WSFA, "He sticks his feet through the ceiling by the entrance door, hangs himself on top of the door frame, jumps down and somehow gets away with 30 people standing around him...it's the craziest thing I've ever seen."

The Mobile police department confirmed to AL.com that the suspect allegedly stole a debit card, shoes, a hat, a watch, and underwear.
