Where a $1 House Is Still Too Expensive
We know you can't afford to buy a house in New York City. So how about, uh, Buffalo? You'll never be short on snow. And you won't believe how affordable the houses are.
Do I hear a dolla, one dolla one dolla one dolladolladolla.... sold! Sold? Maybe, to you, if you're... lucky! Lucky? Well, it's all a matter of perspective. What I can tell you for sure is that the city of Buffalo is selling abandoned and crumbling houses for the low, low price of $1. A pretty good deal, yes. But still a little steep. From the LA Times:
Creighton Randall bought a Dollar Home from the city of Buffalo in 2008 and has been working on it on and off ever since...
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't," said Randall, who has since left Buffalo for a job opportunity. "I should have just bought one of the houses on sale for $13,000 and saved myself a lot of time."
Yeah... a buck is an okay deal until you think about the fact that there are dozens of houses for sale under $20K that have, you know, floors, and walls, and heat.
Call me when Buffalo starts paying people $20K to take a house off their hands, and we'll talk. ("No thanks," I will say, as we talk.)
