‘Who Knows What Was in My Head?’ Donald Trump Asks the Eternal Question
Donald Trump is finally starting to talk some sense.
The Republican presidential candidate and crumpled mess of a man went on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday morning after a win in the South Carolina primary on Saturday night. Trump’s thoughts on the war in Iraq were brought up, specifically his statement to Howard Stern in 2002, when asked whether he was for the war:
“Yeah, I guess so. You know, I wish it was – I wish the first time it was done correctly.”
Trump has garnered criticism for this statement, because he’s been adamantly insisting he was against the war from the start. On Sunday, when asked by NBC’s Chuck Todd to clarify, Trump asked a question that millions of Americans have been wondering.
Trump went on:
“Well, what I mean by that is it almost shouldn’t have been done, and, you know, I really don’t even know what I mean, because that was a long time ago, and who knows what was in my head?...I think that it wasn’t done correctly. In retrospect it shouldn’t have been done at all. It was sort of, you know, it was just done, it was just – we dropped bombs.”
“I really don’t even know what I mean,” coming from the Republican presidential frontrunner, is not a comforting statement.
