Fox's Limp Rebuke To Scientology Bart Simpson Calls
The Scientologist who voices Bart Simpson used the character in robo-calls promoting a Los Angeles-area cult event. Simpsons creator Fox could not have been pleased.
Not that you'd know it from the network's response. A producer issued a statement that "The Simpsons does not, and never has, endorsed any religion, philosophy or system of beliefs any more profound than Butterfinger bars," while a network spokesman told USA Today "the calls have stopped and Fox has not taken any further action."
We're guessing the network's response would be a bit more vigorous if another high-revenue organization was using its intellectual property to recruit new customers.
You can hear the call above; note that Cartwright, a high-ranking "OT VII," is believed to have given at least $10 million to the Church of Scientology.
