Jaycee Dugard Found After 18 Years, Thanks To Abductor's Idiocy
Phillip C. Garrido's one sick son of a bitch. He even puts sicko Austrian man Josef Fritzl to shame. For the past 18 years, Garrido spent his time tending to one Jaycee Dugard, whom he brazenly kidnapped back in 1991.
Dugard was snatched off of a California street as her stepfather watched. A search ensued, but investigators never caught a whiff of Dugard's trail and her family gave up hope. Well, police finally found Dugard today in Antioch, California, where Garrido imprisoned and raped her. And, as the blood-curdling icing, Garrido also impregnated Garrido and kept their two daughters, 11 and 14, in he backyard, too. They've never, ever seen the outside world. Neighbors described Garrido as "strange" and a religious fanatic, but certainly never imagined her was keeping an entire secret family prisoner.
Garrido, who was on parole for a 1971 kidnap/rape situation, likely would have kept Dugard for another 18 years had he not basically turned himself in by bringing Dugard, who he introduced as his "wife," and their two children to a meeting with a California parole office.
There, during an interview, Dugard, who surely was waiting for this moment her whole adult life, revealed her identity, thus resulting in Garrido and his real wife's arrest. Yes, his wife knew about the whole thing. Clearly Garrido was not only insane — seriously, who constructs a secret tent city to imprison and rape an 11-year old girl? Cuckoo! — but he's also an utter moron. And that's a good thing.
Dugard's now with her family and, we hope, will adjust to a life of freedom, press attention and hefty therapy bills.
