This morning, The Today Show ran a segment about internet trolls who descend on the families of dead teens. It's unpleasant stuff; the full segment inside.

Starting with the recent suicide of seventeen year old Lexi Pilkington and touching on several similar cases, the piece discussed the ways these trolls prey on families in mourning with the express purpose of causing emotional distress. It's pretty disturbing stuff and reminds us just how many people use the veil of anonymity to explore the darkest parts of the human psyche.

Matt Lauer then talked with Perry Aftab, an Internet safety specialist. They discussed the legal side of the issue and the ways in which the government is beginning to classify certain aspects of online bullying as felonies.
