Anne Rice wrote all those vampire books and we were like "Uhh.." and then she became a Catholic and we were like "Okayyy..." but then she quit the church and now she's speaking out and we're like "She's our hero!"

Anne very publicly renounced Christianity via Facebook a couple of weeks ago, saying, "In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity." Which prompted the very reasonable follow-up question, wtf is this lady talking about? Now, she's expounded on her thinking to ABC News, and it all seems very honorable. She's still into the ideals of Jesus and all that, she just realized that the Church itself sucked big time, and that its stances on gays, birth control, abortion, and other things were too awful for her to continue calling herself a member.

"I mean, it causes great moral discomfort when your church is calling homosexuality gravely disordered. And when they're spending money, maybe money that you, yourself contributed to fight — to support Prop 8 [California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage], I mean, I can't emphasize how demoralizing that is to me. Why millions of dollars in church funds spent on persecuting these people publicly. I don't get it. I think it's wrong. I think it's evil"

It's as if you, a liberal heathen, had the argument you always have with a Catholic—and they actually bought it. Rock on with your bizarre self, Anne Rice.
