Fox News' Parent Company Gave $1 Million to Pro-Republican Group
Fox News' parent company, News Corp. made headlines earlier this year for donating $1 million to the Republican Governor's Association. Looks like that wasn't their only beneficiary: The Republican-allied U.S. Chamber of Commerce received the same sum this past summer.
The Chamber of Commerce, a powerful lobby for businesses both large and small, but mostly large, has been funding an aggressive campaign on behalf of the Republican party, spending some $6.7 million so far to air around 8,000 ads for Republican candidates. This is all because Republicans have "pro-business policies," such as, "don't do anything about global warming, ever" and "lower taxes on corporations to unbelievable, unsustainable levels," while Democrats hate business, and spend all their time in Das Kapital study groups.
And now they have even more money to aid them in their campaign, thanks to News Corp.! The company, headed by aging Australian-born super-villain Rupert Murdoch, owns Fox News, and it's already given out a lot of money this year—including $1 million to the Republican Governor's Association.
Is any of this surprising? Well, the fact that Murdoch and News Corp. are looking to help groups that will give pro-corporate policies a Hank Smallbusinessownerton face is not really surprising, no. What is sort of surprising, if you are not completely cynical and jaded, is that Murdoch just doesn't give a shit to the extent that he'll donate a million freaking dollars despite controlling several major media outlets—Fox News, of course, as well as the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, and House.
Anyway, nothing will happen, really, except that MoveOn.org will send you a million emails about it and the Chamber of Commerce will have an extra million to blow on a few congressional races and then fifty years from now when glaciers no longer exist you will be able to say to yourself "Well gee at least the CEO of McDonald's is making a couple more figures than he would be otherwise."
