Yikes. A 10-year-old girl in Jerez de la Frontera—a city in the Andalusia region of Spain—just gave birth, and authorities can't decide whether or not to let her family keep the baby.

The baby's father is also underage, and both mother and child (child and child?) are in good health. Per the Associated Press:

Spanish newspapers said the mother is of Romanian origin. The daily Diario de Jerez quoted medical staffers who treated the girl as saying they were told by her mother that giving birth at such a young age is common in their country.

Is that the mother's way of saying other countries have early onset puberty problems like the United States? Because, again, yikes. [NPR, image via Shutterstock]
