Remember that $11 million fake Christmas tree adorned with rubies, gold and diamonds in the lobby of the Emirates Palace hotel? The hotel says it regrets "attempts to overload" the holiday with gaudiness, and then blamed it on a jeweler.

According to the AP, the hotel issued a statement to local media that apologized for "attempts to overload the tradition followed by most hotels in the country with meanings and connotations that do not fall in line with the (hotel's) professional standards." But the Emirates Palace added that a jeweler in the hotel was responsible for the decorations: "The hotel is just a venue for exhibiting the tree." Maybe!
