It's official: As had been rumored for hours, Keith Olbermann is bringing his special brand of self-righteous haranguing to Current TV, Al Gore's weird TV thingie that no one watches. On a phone conference call today, Olbermann revealed that he will host an hour-long newscast five nights a week for Current and will serve as the network's "Chief News Officer."

"Nothing is more vital to my concept of a free media than news produced independently of corporate interference," Olbermann said on the call, explaining his decision to sign up with a company that Comcast Corporation owns 10% of and that is run by a corporate director of Apple. Oh, and Olbermann is actually taking an ownership stake in Current as part of the deal, making him an owner of a corporation and a business partner of Comcast. Will he interfere with himself? He always does.
