Hot on the heels of Google releasing its Groupon clone, Facebook has announced it will push online coupons, too, via a new product called Facebook Deals. Unlike its competitors, Deals will show up in your Facebook news feed. Great.

"If there is a deal that is good for you, it will likely show up in your news feed at some point in the day," Facebook director for local Emily White told the New York Times. This and the other unspecified ways Deals will be "well integrated" with the rest of Facebook makes the 600 million-member social network's group buying system the spammiest among the many clones of discount site Groupon and Groupon itself. But, then, when a tech behemoth like Facebook meets a thriving competitor that simply doesn't want to sell itself, it has to find some kind of unique leverage with which to compete, annoying or not.
