Tim Pawlenty Thinks Scientists are 'in Dispute' About Homosexuality
Scientists—like, actual scientists, with real degrees and a belief in the scientific method—agree that people do not choose their sexual orientation. Someone should tell Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty! Because he seems to think that "the science in that regard is in dispute."
This little bit of nonsense came out on Meet the Press, when host David Gregory asked the Minnesotan if "being gay [is] a choice."
PAWLENTY: Well, the science in that regard is in dispute. I mean, scientists work on that and try to figure out if it's behavioral or if it's partly genetic –
GREGORY: What do you think?
PAWLENTY: Well, I defer to the scientists in that regard.
GREGORY: So you think it's not a choice? That you are, as Lady Gaga says, you're born that way.
PAWLENTY: There's no scientific conclusion that it's genetic. We don't know that.
Well, technically, he's right that there's no scientific conclusion homosexuality is genetic. But! Tim! That's beside the point! No one besides you and Michelle Bachmann's husband believe that being gay is a choice. Certainly no scientists do!
