Likely presidential candidate Rick Perry, governor of Texas, hurt the Christian conservatives' feelings last week when he said about gay marriage in New York, "That's New York, and that's their business, and that's fine with me. That is their call. If you believe in the 10th Amendment, stay out of their business." That was courageous of him! But now it's all over, and he suddenly supports a federal marriage amendment.

The Family Research Council got on his ass over the remark, and appear to have been successful. "I probably needed to add a few words after that ‘it's fine with me,' and that it's fine with me that a state is using their sovereign rights to decide an issue," he said in an interview. "Obviously gay marriage is not fine with me. My stance hasn't changed."

But then he went on to support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, which does in fact seem like a changed stance! As CBN's David Brody speculates, though, he's probably going by the somewhat forced logic that allowing states to vote on a proposed amendment is, uh, an important way of supporting state's rights. Fine, go nuts with that.
