Reporting on the U.K. riots, Sky News said that 1,700 police officers were deployed, contrasted with 5,000 assigned to the Royal Wedding. In the meantime, the British Monarchy's official Twitter and Facebook feeds remain silent on the unrest.

Update: The ONE News/Reuters report quoting Sky News looks to have been erroneous, as conflicting reports say that 1,700 officers were going to be added to the number already on duty. The Metropolitan Police now say via Twitter that the total amount of police in the streets in the next 24 hours will actually be 16,000 officers.

The number of 5,000 police officers patrolling the Royal Wedding checks out, however. At a cost of 20 million pounds, it was the "most expensive security event in history."
