Rick Perry Is Scared of His Tea Party Audience
[There was a video here]
In last week's Republican presidential debate, the crowd gave Rick Perry a round of applause when the moderator mentioned that he'd executed 234 people during his time as Texas governor. So was he heartened last night, too, when some folks cheered in response to Wolf Blitzer's question, "Are you saying that society should just let [uninsured person] die?" Nope! That shit scared him.
Perry was asked about the incident at a fundraiser this morning, and told NBC News, "I was a bit taken aback by that myself. We're the party of life. We ought to be coming up with ways to save lives." He was also quick to explain the difference between the sort of deaths that he champions and the ones that he doesn't:
Perry distinguished from that the issue of "justice," reiterating his strong support and "respect" for the death penalty on a state-by-state basis. "But the Republican party ought to be about life and protecting, particularly, innocent life," he added.
What kinds of death do you like to cheer for, dear readers? Perhaps this death, or something more creative?
