RIP Car Talk: Popular NPR Show to Stop Recording This Fall
NPR announced today that Tom and Ray Magliozzi, better known as Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers, will be retiring as hosts of the popular weekly call-in show Car Talk.
Starting in October, NPR will replace the live show with compilation of archival material recorded over the show's 25 years on the air. "My brother has always been 'work-averse," the 63-year-old Ray said about his 74-year-old sibling in a statement. "Now, apparently, even the one hour a week is killing him!"
The brothers addressed their departure in a blog post entitled "Time to Get Even Lazier."
"Will we change our minds and come back and do some more shows?" Ray asks rhetorically. "I would say it's unlikely, but anything's possible. Right, Tommy?"
To which Tom responds: "Absolutely not. My brother can go chase himself. I'm done."
