New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg is no stranger to fast food meddling: this is the same guy who fought against obesity with a ban on large sugary drinks.

But when it comes to deciding which fast food chains get to move into the city, Bloomberg isn't about to overstep his bounds.

Although he himself is a supporter of marriage equality, Bloomberg used his weekly radio show to express his disapproval over Mayor Thomas Menino's threats to keep Chick-fil-A out of Boston.

You can't have a test for what the owners' personal views are before you decide to give a permit to do something in the city. You really don't want to ask political beliefs or religious beliefs before you issue a permit. That's just not government's job.

Bloomberg also criticized Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel and San Francisco mayor Edwin M. Lee, both of whom issued stern warnings against Chick-fil-A.

Menino, at least, understands where Bloomberg is coming from — recently, he admitted that he has no authority when it comes to blocking the fast food chain from entering Boston.

Nevertheless, Bloomberg remains a supporter of marriage equality. And while he questions politicians' involvement in the restaurant's plans for expansion, he probably won't be heading to Chick-fil-A for a photo op any time soon.
