Lena Dunham Makes a Sex Joke in Latest Obama Campaign Ad—Quick! Shield Your Young, Blossoming Daughter's Eyes!
The Obama campaign just released its latest video ad, featuring none other than Girls creator Lena Dunham. In the clip, she offers advice on "your first time," describing one's first foray into the voting booth the same way a young lady might describe losing her virginity. In other words, a cute sex joke! And guess what? Right-wing bloggers flipped out.
From the video:
Your first time shouldn't be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy. It should be with a guy with beautiful … somebody who really cares about and understands women.
A guy who cares about whether you get health insurance, and specifically whether you get birth control. The consequences are huge. You want to do it with a guy who brought the troops out of Iraq. You don't want a guy who says, "Oh hey, I'm at the library studying," when he's really out not signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act.
Dunham's monologue is obvious proof to right-wing bloggers—the very best analytical minds of the Internet—that Obama sees young women as helpless and sex-obsessed. At least, that's what John Nolte, Breitbart News's Editor-At-Large thinks:
How could a president with two, young blossoming daughters release an ad as disgusting as this --> https://t.co/W6ubj5y1

He has also apparently noticed that Obama is the father of two "blossoming" daughters. Yup, releasing an ad that advocates for women to choose a president/partner who cares about birth control and women's rights =disgusting. Randomly bringing up Obama's daughters and describing them as "blossoming" = totally normal and not creepy at all.
Then there's this dude, Mr. Joshua Treviño who thinks it's appropriate to note that Obama is taking cues from Vladimir Putin, otherwise known as head of our biggest arch-nemesis, Russia.
Breitbart's Bob Shapiro may quite possibly have the saddest understanding of the clip. In an article titled "OBAMA CAMPAIGN TO GIRLS: HAVE SEX WITH VOTE FOR O" he writes:
Obama has young daughters. But that didn't stop him from releasing this commercial. Because this is what Obama thinks of your daughters. This is Obama's official campaign ad. Paid for with his campaign money. Distributed by his campaign. If this ad were any more demeaning to women – who apparently care only about having sex, if you listen to Lena "You Want To Do It" Dunham — it would be produced by Bill Maher and star Bill Clinton.
So does Shapiro think the only funny sex jokes are the ones that women aren't in on? Genuine question: What qualifies as an appropriate Republican sex joke?
