Mitt Romney Blames Election Loss on Obama's 'Gifts' to Impoverished Young Minorities
Though he's had plenty of time to reflect on the result of last week's presidential election, GOP nominee Mitt Romney, much like his running mate, is still refusing to admit that his defeat might have had more to do with his own platform than with that of his opponent.
In a phone call with top donors today, Romney pinned the blame for his loss squarely on the President, saying it was "the gifts" Obama promised to minorities, young people, and voters making between $25,000 and $30,000 that cost him the election.
The LA Times reports that "Obama's gifts" included college loan interest forgiveness, health coverage "in perpetuity," and "amnesty" to children born to illegal immigrants.
"The president's campaign focused on giving targeted groups a big gift," Romney said, "so he made a big effort on small things. Those small things, by the way, add up to trillions of dollars."
Romney went on to express regret at not winning having "expected to win." He apologized to donors, but insisted there was "no drama in the campaign."
By the way, "Obama's Gifts" is already a meme.
