Accused Charleston Shooter Dylann Roof Indicted on New Charges
Accused Charleston shooter Dylann Roof was indicted on three additional charges Tuesday, ensuring he’ll stand trial on at least 13 counts related to the church massacre that left nine people dead.
A grand jury indicted the 21-year-old on three new charges of attempted murder, the AP reports. He’s already been charged with nine counts of murder and one count of possession of a firearm.
Three people survived the shooting, precipitating the attempted murder charges. Two of the three survivors reportedly played dead, and Roof allegedly told the third victim that “he was letting her live so she could tell everyone else what happened.”
The charges so far have all been on the state level, but Roof may still yet face a federal case; the FBI is reportedly investigating whether federal hate crime charges apply.
