Federal prosecutors will also seek the death penalty against alleged Charleston shooter Dylann Roof, the Attorney General’s office announced today.

Joseph Meek, Jr., the childhood friend Dylann Roof briefly lived with before allegedly killing nine people at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church last year, has accepted a plea agreement over charges he lied to federal investigators and failed to report a crime, The New York Times reports.

Citing unnamed officials, The Post and Courier reports that federal agents have arrested 21-year-old Joseph Meek, Jr., the South Carolina man who Dylann Roof briefly lived with before allegedly killing nine people at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church in June.

At a hearing this morning, a judge announced that the trial for alleged Charleston shooter Dylann Roof has been tentatively set for July 11, 2016. Ninth Circuit Judge J.C. Nicholson also extended a gag order that prevents law enforcement agencies from releasing information—including 911 calls, photos, and police reports—about the June 17th massacre at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church until at least next Wednesday.

In addition to dashcam footage of Dylann Roof’s arrest, authorities in Shelby, N.C. released a two-minute audio clip on Tuesday of the 911 call that led police to the alleged Charleston shooter last Thursday.

This afternoon, Shelby, N.C., police released dashboard video of Dylann Roof’s arrest last Thursday. Two officers can be seen exchanging what appears to be a celebratory fist bump after Roof is handcuffed.

Six days after nine people were killed during a shooting at a historic black church in South Carolina, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe announced that his state would begin the process of removing Confederate flags from their license plates. “As you all know, I have spent the past 17 months working to build a new Virginia economy that is more open and welcoming to everyone,” he said in a statement. “Removing this symbol from our state-issued license plates will be another step towards realizing that goal.”

South Carolina governor Nikki Haley called for the removal of the state capitol Confederate flag Monday, saying one way or another, the flag will come down this summer.

Before accused Charleston mass-shooter Dylann Roof was even in police custody, one of Reddit’s most popular racism forums (there are many) was praising his slaughter and encouraging more.

On Wednesday night, after killing nine people in the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, Dylann Roof allegedly put his gun to his head and pulled the trigger. The gun, however, was empty.

National Rifle Association board member Charles Cotton blamed Clementa Pinckney, a state senator and pastor at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, for his own death and for the death of his parishioners in Charleston this week, Thinkprogress reports.
