Reelz Doesn't Care Donald Trump Is an Asshole, Will Broadcast Miss USA
Citing “American tradition” (which may or may be an oblique reference to money—who’s to say?) the cable channel Reelz announced Thursday that it will broadcast the Miss USA pageant after both NBC and Univision dropped the show in the wake of Donald Trump’s latest idiot statements.
The networks pulled out of their contracts after Trump made several offensive statements about Mexicans during his presidential announcement. Since then, at least a dozen companies and individuals have renounced support for Trump—but not Reelz.
“The decision on the part of Reelz to acquire the rights to the MISS USA Pageant was based on our belief that this special event, and the women who compete in it, are an integral part of American tradition,” said Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of Reelz. “As one of only a few independent networks, we decided to exercise our own voice and committed ourselves to bringing this pageant to American viewers everywhere.”
Cool. Can’t wait to not watch.
