Men wearing sport coats and jeans: no. You want to be formal? Fine, wear a sport coat. You want to be casual? Fine, wear jeans. Pick one, and stand by your choice—Like A Real Man.

Wearing a sport coat with jeans does not make you look "Business Casual" or "Casual Friday" or "Relaxed Business" or "Business and Pleasure." It makes you look like a dork.

One or the other. Not both.

Yesterday, Gawker staffers had a lengthy and heated internal argument on this point, pitting the arbiters of hard truth against those guilt-ridden (unnamed) men on staff who may themselves be guilty of sporting this particular sartorial combination from time to time. Suffice it to say that we had a passionate back-and-forth that may or may not have descended into rude ad hominem attacks that resulted in the personal style of a veteran staff member being described as "homeless." Well, I'll take homeless over "dorkzilla" any day. That's for sure.

The more fiercely a man argues in favor of wearing sport coats and jeans together, the more plainly the flaws of his character are revealed.

That said, we welcome alternate viewpoints in the discussion section below.
