When Joi met Esther

Owen Thomas · 04/10/08 06:00PM

Hyperglobal adventure capitalists Joi Ito and Esther Dyson met by coincidence at London Heathrow's just-opened Terminal 5, and raced to post photos of each other to Flickr. Before Yahoo bought the photo site, Dyson was an investor in Flickr. Suggest a caption in the comments. (Photos by Esther Dyson and Joi Ito)

"Icy Hot Stuntaz — Revolutions"

Nicholas Carlson · 04/09/08 06:00PM

We hear Mahalo's "guides" — the editors who update the online directory's search-engine-friendly pages — only make between $30,000 to $35,000 a year, and their employer only grosses about $9,000 per month. But Sean Percival, Juan Aguilar and Mike Rhodes would you like to know they are nevertheless in possession of bling. Or something. Please tell us what. Best caption becomes the post's title. Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak and comedienne Kathy Griffin meet Rascal, the "world's ugliest dog," and his master, Dane Andrew, at the Humane Society Silicon Valley's Fur Ball benefit on Saturday. The two were filming an episode of Griffin's "My Life on the D List." Suggest a caption in the comments. (Photo by Pandy Arrieta)

Page, Branson, Wales and Blair fuel up private jets for more green getaways

Nicholas Carlson · 03/25/08 06:00PM

Earlier this month, Virgin's Richard Branson hosted Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and his wealthier coevals on Necker Island for a discussion on global warming. The beach party seemed to be held mostly for the benefit of a sun-satiated New York Times reporter. But, between sips of pinot grigio, Branson and his tanning friends confirmed that yes, they will consider holding another such confab again in the future. You don't see plebes in Priuses saving the world, do you? Write your best caption in the comments.

"It was that or the trifecta, and I was feeling adventurous"

Jordan Golson · 03/19/08 07:00AM

A Bear Stearns trader with a sense of humor taped a hard-earned two-buck greenback to the front door of Bear's corporate headquarters in New York. $2 is the per-share value that JPMorgan Chase agreed to purchase Bear Stearns for, a far cry from the $60 a share that the bank was trading at last week. Our best caption is above, but you can do better. Leave one in the comments below. (Photo by Reuters/Kristina Cooke)

Google is your new God

Jackson West · 03/17/08 11:21PM

Spotted in Los Angeles, this bit of evangelism by the Hollywood United Methodist Church smacks of a desperate attempt to woo younger converts. Tipster Chris Iverson wonders if this might be trademark infringement, but even Google's PR department wouldn't be clueless enough to let legal go after the holy rollers. If the church is really trying to fill pews, why don't they just buy keyword ads? That seems easier.

Leah Culver gives Kyle Shank the cupcake treatment

Owen Thomas · 03/16/08 08:10PM

Former Uncov guy and Persai CEO Kyle Shank, at center, recovers from an unsolicited cupcake smearing by Pownce's Leah Culver. The attack, likely motivated by Uncov accomplice Ted Dziuba's frequent gibes directed at Culver, took place at Flickr's fourth birthday party. Flickr's Cal Henderson, right, is said to have served as Culver's accomplice. Speaking of, can anyone confirm whether Henderson and Culver are dating? The two were inseparable at SXSW. If so, snaps to Culver: We hear Henderson's website is highly scalable. (Photo by magerleagues)

Finally, a solution to Critical Mass

Apple has announced its Worldwide Developers Conference will take place June 9-13. The invite, above, reminds you to mark the week as "hellish traffic" on your calendar. And the two bridges? Most likely they reflect Apple's dual developer tracks, one for iPhone and one for Mac. So much for the notion that it's all the same operating system. [Gizmodo]
