Friends don't let friends get tattoos at SXSW

Owen Thomas · 03/11/08 01:20PM

As I stumbled around the streets of Austin, a girl lurched out of an RV and accosted me, insisting that I photograph her freshly acquired tattoo. Do you <3 it as much as she does?

Owen Thomas · 03/10/08 04:20PM

At Sunday's SXSW afterparty, Facebook fanboy Dave McClure acquired a fan club: Facebookers Web-video auteur Randi Jayne (née Zuckerberg) and Brandee Barker, chief damage-control officer. More photos from the party, after the jump; your best headlines in the comments.

Jason Pontin from the block

Owen Thomas · 03/10/08 09:00AM

Don't be fooled by the titles that he's got (CEO, editor-in-chief, publisher, grand vizier, poo-bah). Jason Pontin from Technology Review reflects his Oakland-via-Oxford roots, styling an ironic hoodie under his suit jacket at the Valleywag/io9/Lifehacker party in Austin.

"And then I thought, 'Blue sneakers, why not?'"

"Everything happens for a reason," MIT's Henry Jenkins tells Outside.in CEO Steven Johnson in a SXSW keynote conversation. Does that include Johnson's wardrobe? Suggest a better caption in the comments below.

Arrington's surprise appearance in Austin

Melissa Gira Grant · 03/07/08 07:40PM

Sure, he missed out on TED, but that's not stopping Michael Arrington from popping up at SXSW. We got a glimpse of him when pet-repreneur Ted Rheingold bounded in as a surprise guest during Battledecks II, a sort of PowerPoint karaoke where contestants narrate zany (!) slides on the fly. Now the whole gang can play from home: Suggest your headline for this photo in the comments.

Digg's dedicated founder goes to great heights in search of a revenue model

Owen Thomas · 03/02/08 04:58PM

Why is Digg founder Kevin Rose clambering around the inside of Miami's Carnival Centre, the site of the Future of Web Apps conference? Perhaps the conference is literally climb-the-walls boring. Or Rose is indulging a newfound enthusiasm for buildering, the indoor version of rock climbing. Or, most likely, he's trying to impress Julia Allison. Suggest your own caption in the comments; the winner of the contest has their suggestion turned into this post's new headline. (Photo by tantek)

Mashable? I'll show ya mashable!

Nicholas Carlson · 02/25/08 05:20PM

Mashable's Pete Cashmore (left) and CenterNetworks blogger Allen Stern (right) met for a beer on Saturday. But things turned ugly when Cashmore insisted on being so damn handsome.
