Dropped in on Dave Winer and Niall Kennedy's Blogger Dinner last night. A couple dozen bloggers attended the comfortable little affair at Henry's Hunan. I chatted with one — friend and blogger Nicole Lee — in a day-after dinner autopsy. Apologies to anyone we forgot to smugly name-drop.

Dave Winer, king of the (totally mainstream and not inbred) world of Internet news feeds, is known for his font of wisdom, the personal blog Scripting News. But sometimes, in doling out his advice, the inventor of RSS Flavor #3 forgets that not everyone spends the whole day resting on their laurels:

Techmeme (TechCrunch's robot friend) got extra-confusing yesterday with all the talk about OPML. Blog-syndication boss Dave Winer opened his blog-sharing project, Share Your OPML, to much fanfare from the technorati.

Those bastards at "Those Bastards!" started their whole blog with a Dave Winer slam-a-thon; now they've upped the ante with the Dave Winer Countdown. They took the RSS-kinda-inventor at his word when he promised to stop blogging by the year's end.

Poor Dave Winer. Not only will he never get the respect he deserves for inventing the third-most popular version of the RSS feed format, but he's always getting ragged on too.

Rejoice or cry. Dave Winer, inventor of RSS (disregarding the other inventors) and A-lister's A-lister in the Valley blog world, is gonna give up blogging at Scripting.com. "Soon, probably before the end of 2006, I will put this site in mothballs, in archive mode, and go on to other things."
