True Blood Will Never Die

Richard Lawson · 06/21/10 02:52PM

It really never will, declares HBO. Also today: lots of casting news, including a Real World cast member who continues to make good. New teen programming sounds teeny. And a romantic weeper finds its cast.

Tangled Will Not Be the Savior of Animation

Richard Lawson · 06/10/10 02:57PM

Here's a trailer for Tangled, Disney's terribly titled Rapunzel animated movie musical. The look of the film is inspired by "The Swing," though it's rendered in cold 3D computer animation. This is something of a disappointment.

How Not to Do Insider Trading

Hamilton Nolan · 05/27/10 09:46AM

We always laugh when, say, someone's arrested for brazenly offering weed for sale on Craigslist. Our apologies to those fools. It turns out that the dumbest criminals of all are trying to pull off insider trading. Very, very poorly.

Mo' Duck Money, Mo' Duck Problems

Daniel Barnum-Swett · 04/13/10 10:45AM

In a reimagined Duck Tales intro, the Beagle Boys enact sexually charged violence against Webby Vanderquack in a ransom plot designed only to replenish the sadistic Scrooge McDuck's money swimming pool. Why Disney never developed the storyline is a mystery.

Disney Vu: When Disney Movies Copy Themselves

Whitney Jefferson · 03/29/10 09:02AM

There's nothing wrong with reusing good ideas, but we'd never have guessed that Disney ripped themselves off so many times. From Robin Hood to Cinderella, watching these classic clips from our childhood favorites will make you smile today.

Disney Bans Fake Boobs from Pirates

Maureen O'Connor · 03/21/10 11:40AM

If this catches on, half of Hollywood's females will fall into poverty. Casting for their fourth Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney specifies that fake breasts are not permitted, and actresses will be subjected to pre-shoot jiggle tests to check.

Mean Disney Girls is Astonishingly Good

Mike Byhoff · 03/04/10 04:56PM

This is quite the editing feat. Video from various Disney movies is sync'd up (almost) perfectly to match the audio from the Mean Girls trailer. The idea is brilliant, and the execution is even better.

Dalí and Disney's Delayed Destino

Daniel Barnum-Swett · 02/23/10 11:45AM

In 1945, Salvador Dalí and Disney began collaborating on a project that would have been the surrealist's only animated film. With only 18 seconds finished by the original artists, the short was completed in 2003 from storyboards.

Goth Is Dead

Hamilton Nolan · 02/19/10 12:19PM

Disney is marketing Alice in Wonderland to Goths with a soundtrack featuring The Cure and "an extensive line of clothing and accessories" at Hot Topic, including a "black shackle bracelet for $10." So much for that. [WSJ]
